It is important to note that our technology used in therapy cannot be considered psychotherapy and will never replace traditional therapy. In many ways, Therapeutic Short Message Services (TSMS) share some similarities with life-coaching. While TSMS cannot diagnose or treat behavioral problems or mental illness, it can offer guidance and advice to people experiencing complex problems in relationships, work, or life. TSMS has limitations, but it is quickly becoming an important resource for a rapidly growing number of consumers. Despite an early lack of research on the effectiveness of TSMS treatment, our service offers education, mental health, social service  and community corrections professionals  a  very effective tool for providing services to clients.
Parent involvement is perhaps the most important component of a child's education however more effort must be made to facilitate communication between the teacher and the parent.  Since we know good teacher parent communication is essential to increase parent involvement, EdStar developed the T.I.C.E.P. program employing the latest technology to provide teachers with a method to make daily contact with all parents a simple process.

Recent studies indicate that the more actively involved a parent is in her child's school life, the more the child excels. When parents and teachers work together, a child has a team of adults who are committed to bringing out his best. With T.I.C.E.P., parents and teachers can seamlessly support each other in ways that keep this goal in mind.

"Because A Good Education Can Make A Star"
As cell phone usage has spread to much of the population of the world, there has been a huge growth in the use of short message services (SMS) as a form of communication, used not only for person-to-person contact, but  also SMS is used  as business-to-person and increasingly government-to-person.

EdStar has developed several proprietary applications that will increase the use of SMS to provide invaluable support to educators, social workers and probation services.

For example, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an accepted first-line therapy for mild-moderate depression in adolescents. Integral to CBT is "homework" as it enhances mastery of newly learned coping strategies, facilitates generalization of skills to novel situations, increases self-efficacy, and ultimately reduces vulnerability to relapse (Detweiler et al 1999).

Adherence to homework is a recognized problem in adults, and is similarly problematic in adolescents. One method of implementing CBT homework in a manner that is centric to current youth culture is through text messaging. By using a modern modality that many adolescents rely on for daily communication, there is the likelihood that they will find it more engaging than traditional modalities. Thus the potential that a text message system can help improve homework compliance in adolescents is significant.
